Ambir and Cabot Solutions announce “Bridging the Gap to India” Program

October 18, 2010 – Ambir , an Atlantic Canada based IT Consulting firm and Cabot Solutions, a software development firm based in Kochi, India are jointly announcing the ‘Bridging the Gap to India’ program for companies in Atlantic Canada. This joint initiative is designed to help Atlantic Canadian based businesses learn and harness the IT potential of a global supply chain. This unique program offers the best of both worlds for participating companies; enabling them to leverage the skill sets of local experienced IT Consulting partner and the efficiency and cost savings of an India based partner.

Ambir and Cabot have entered into a business partnership to offer this program to interested firms in Atlantic Canada. Participant companies in will liaise with the Ambir team based in Atlantic Canada who will responsible for developing project requirements and specifications and for undertaking key technical activities including solution design and architecture. The Ambir team will then act as the project management interface to Cabot Solutions in India who will take responsibility for building and delivering the solution.

Benefits for participants
• The greatest risk in working with a remote development provider is the lack of clear communication about project expectations and defining and managing the scope of work. This risk is mitigated by the use of local Ambir resources who have significant experience working with Atlantic Canadian clients on a variety of IT projects
• The Ambir team will also engage its local Atlantic Canadian partner, Comprecultures, to provide Ambir and client team members training on cross cultural communication and global business
• Resource continuity will be maintained throughout the project as the locally based Ambir consultants will be involved in the project even after the development work is initiated in India
• Communication, another major challenge in remote development projects, is managed by a Cabot business analyst based in India who spent many years living and working in Atlantic Canada. He will work with the team in India and communicate regularly with Ambir and the client in Atlantic Canada
• Cost effective – By undertaking the project by leveraging local and remote resources we are able to offer the client a blended rate for the entire project which will be lower than doing the entire project in Canada.
• Access to technical expertise – Both Ambir and Cabot have access to a wide variety of resources trained in different technical domains
• Most importantly, this program is intended to give an exposure for the participants to the opportunities of working with a global IT supply chain in a manner that reduces the risk

Target Clients:

The ideal scale/scope of a project to be undertaken with this program would be one that typically would take 3 to 6 months in duration to complete. Such a project typically also is front ended by a one month engagement focused on requirements gathering and specification.

Technologies targeted in this initial program include:

• JAVA (J2EE, Hibernate, Spring, Struts, Junit, eclipse, log4j)
• iPhone/iPad application development
• ASP .NET
• PHP (LAMP, CodeIgnitor, CakePHP etc.)
• AJAX (JQuery frontend)
• ColdFusion
• Open Source CMS (Joomla ,Drupal and WordPress)
• Flash (AS3) and Flex (Amfphp / BlazeDS or SOAP/REST webServices)
• SOAP/REST Webservices
• Asterisk VOIP Platform
• Linux (Ubuntu and CentOS) hosting and server admin expertise

Logistics and Contracting:

Global communications between the client, Ambir and Cabot will take place via several different media including direct dial phone (via a local Atlantic Canadian number), Skype (free web based communication tool) and email.

This joint initiative is offered in this format for the first time in Canada by Ambir. Each project will be evaluated and estimated through close collaboration with the Client before project initiation. The cost of implementing the program (travel, accommodation, communication costs, etc.) will be shared between Ambir and Cabot. The project budget will be set in discussion with the client before project initiation.

The contract that will be put in place with the client will be between Ambir and the end client.
